The very picturesque village of Spilia lies in a valley amongst olive groves and citrus trees and is just 3km inland from the coastal village of Kolymbari.
The village has been named after the cave (Spilia means cave) of Agios Ioannis where one will find a church inside the cave. The stunning views from the cave are breathtaking and spread all the way from the Aegean Sea until the glorious White Mountains. Spilia has a number of churches, including the 12th century Byzantine church of Panagia Mirtidiotissa where one can visit and see amazing frescoes.
Spilia has a few good restaurants, a café and a mini market for every day amenities. For more amenities, Kolymbari is a growing fishing village which has become a small town offering schools, post office, shops, numerous restaurants, bakery, doctors and many more.
The village has been kept very traditional and is lovely to walk through the small alleys to discover the caves and churches of the area.
Spilia is a 35 minute drive from the historical city center of Chania and a 50 minute drive from Chania international airport.
