Kounoupidiana is a small town at the Akrotiri region of Chania. It is located northeast of the city of Chania and its population is around 1,500. It is in close distance to the airport and to Chania respectively.

In the widest region of Kounoupidiana there are also the facilities of the Cretan Polytechnic University. This is the obvious reason the town is filled with students.

Kounoupidiana is built to the south of the Akrotiri peninsula, close to all the beaches of the area, from the bay of Kalathas to the beaches of Marathi and Stavros beach which is further north. This makes Kounoupidiana an ideal base for exploring all the natural beauties and beaches the area offers.

The small town has the entire necessary infrastructure to serve locals and visitors, as well as holiday accommodation for those who want to make Kounoupidiana their holiday base in Chania. It is considered that all the settlements in the region around Kounoupidiana have special interest in residential and architectural terms, as they have monumental buildings and many modern ones as well.

From Kounoupidiana, one can visit the Gouvernetos Monastery and the cave named ‘Arkoudospilios'.
