Pemonia

Pemonia is an untouched Cretan village at an altitude of 210 meters in the peninsular of Apokoronas east of Chania. It is a traditional settlement with a strong Cretan spirit, built at the foot of the "Lefka Ori" mountain range in a fertile valley with vineyards and olive trees.

The village is 26 km east of Hania, at the exit Agoii Pantes, about halfway between Hania and Rethymno, and a mere 1, 5 km from the basic road axis of Crete of Hania-Heraklion.

The area is famous for its natural beauty and the diversity of the Cretan countryside, offering its visitor ample possibilities for any form of ecotourism, hikes in the rugged unspoiled Cretan countryside, or visit the sandy beaches of Kalyves, Georgioupolis and Almyrida offering seaside taverns, restaurants and shops.

The area offers a few outstanding taverns serving traditional Cretan dishes made with excellent local products.
The bigger village of Vrysses is just 2 km away and offers amenities like a bakery, a mini market, a super market, tavernas and kafenions, a bank and a petrol station. The rivers that flow through its centre make it a nice place to escape the summer heat, in the shade of the giant plane trees. Vrysses is also famous for its excellent yoghurt.

An important Byzantine church of Saint George, which has been recently renovated, is still preserved and all indications suggest that the area was inhabited since ancient times and was rich.

Every year on 15th August there is the Holy Spirit celebration in Pemonia.
