Kefalas

KEFALAS

Kefalas is the highest village on the Apokoronou Peninsula at just over 340 metres (1,100 feet) above sea level.

There has been a village here for many centuries, and it has much traditional architecture, including six churches and chapels. Facilities include two mini markets, four kafeneon and two tavernas. Spanning a ridge the village commands superb views of both the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) and the sea towards Rethymno. Additional shopping needs and amenities are available in Vamos, only ten minutes drive away. Sandy beaches at Almerida and Georgioupoli are about fifteen minutes drive, and the historic city of Chania is forty drive minutes along the coast to the west.
